Don Julio Tequila is expanding its 1942 lineup with five new barrel-aged expressions, to be sold exclusively through an auction hosted by BlockBar, a marketplace for spirits-based NFTs.
This release marks the first limited-edition variants of Don Julio 1942, which is typically aged up to 32 months in American white oak barrels. The new versions are finished in ex-bourbon, ruby port, Portuguese Madeira wine, orange wine, and Crémant casks.
Each expression is limited to one cask, equivalent to forty cases or 240 bottles.

A Piece of Luxe-Tequila History
The auction is now live and starts at $35,000 per cask with the five highest bidders each receiving all 240 bottles of their chosen expression. This auction will close on June 20.
The sale involves NFTs for managing ownership and distribution, and the casks will be stored at the Don Julio distillery until March 25, 2025. At that time, each cask NFT will convert into forty individual case NFTs, which can be resold through BlockBar. The physical bottles are expected to be available by mid-2025.
Sophie Kelly, Senior Vice President of Global Tequila and Mezcal Categories at Diageo, stated, “We recognize that for many, luxury tequilas are considered an extension of one’s lifestyle, so we’re meeting the demand for prospective buyers and tastemakers to not only own an extremely rare, super luxe-tequila, but to own a piece of the Tequila Don Julio history and legacy.”
Interested parties can find more information and participate in the auction through BlockBar.
